Ça faisait un bail!
The time has come to sit back and take stock of my life as an apprentice in therapy. I don’t know what happened in my studies, but I find myself making more and more spelling mistakes, as if I had broken down a control freak barrier, the wall that separates what I am willing to share in my writings and what I truly and probably unconsciously want to say. It is always hard to let go of any kind of habit that we use as a weapon against the sometimes spiteful world around us. I have been writing like a maniac, but I’ve kept it for myself and for the people that I work with, who structure my training in art therapy.
What is art therapy? I have yet to find an answer, but I can say it is art and it is therapy. It is the creative process in art and it is what comes out of it when you look at it. It is when you can look back on the person you were one year ago, two years ago, three years ago, and realize how much you have changed. How much more confident you are, how much you love yourself more, how much more eager to live you are.
A large part of my training boils down to working on myself. Practicing art therapy as a patient as well as share my thoughts with the many people I’ve encountered. And what I thought of as an occupational workshop, the wednesday lego activity I host, turns out to be a treasure of an experience in dealing with the influence one can have on others. That is a dangerous game though, as I meet highly troubled people, one cannot play with other people’s minds. That’s where the importance comes of my mentors, especially the director of my studies, a full-time art therapist, psychotherapist, and artist. Continue reading “Long time no see!” →
